Social media erupted to the news that White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned on Friday.

The New York Times reported that Spicer told President Donald Trump it was a mistake to hire Anthony Scaramucci, a Wall Street financier and longtime supporter of Trump's, as the communications director for the White House. Trump offered Scaramucci the position at 10 a.m. on Friday, according to the report. Spicer resigned in protest.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) congratulated Spicer for his resignation.
