Independent reporting on American politics
STATE BEACON

Editorial Policy

How State Beacon selects, reports, checks, and corrects its journalism.

State Beacon is an independent news and commentary publication. This page explains how we work so that readers, sources, advertisers, and search engines can clearly understand who produces our journalism and the standards it is held to.

How stories are selected

We choose stories on the basis of public interest, relevance to American politics and policy, and newsworthiness. We cover developments in government, Congress, national security, policy, and culture that we judge to matter to our readers. Editorial decisions are made by the State Beacon newsroom and are not directed by any outside party, advertiser, or political interest.

How facts are checked

News articles are based on publicly available information, official statements and documents, direct sources, and clearly attributed third-party reporting. We aim to verify factual claims against primary sources wherever possible and to link to those sources so readers can check the original material themselves. Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so.

How opinion is separated from reporting

We distinguish clearly between news reporting and opinion. News articles report facts and attribute claims to their sources. Opinion and commentary are labelled as such and reflect the views of the author, not a position of the publication. We do not present opinion as straight news.

Sources and attribution

We attribute information to its source and link to original material — official statements, public records, and the reporting of other outlets — wherever practical. When we rely on third-party reporting, we credit it.

Use of AI tools

We may use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, to help with research, drafting, formatting, and production. All published material is reviewed under the editorial standards described on this page before it appears. Editorial judgment and responsibility for what we publish rest with the State Beacon newsroom, not with any automated tool.

Sponsored content and advertising

Any sponsored or paid content, should it appear, will be clearly labelled as such and kept distinct from our editorial coverage. Advertising relationships do not influence our reporting or the selection of stories. Advertising enquiries can be sent through our contact page.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and transparently. If we get something wrong, we fix it and, where the change is material, add a note to the article explaining what was changed and when. See our Corrections Policy for how to flag an error.
