Failed 2020 presidential candidate Julián Castro on Monday announced his endorsement of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) days after ending his own bid.

"Today I'm proud to endorse [Warren] for president," Castro said on Twitter. "Elizabeth and I share a vision of America where everyone counts. An America where people—not the wealthy or well-connected—are put first. I'm proud to join her in the fight for big, structural change."

The former Obama administration cabinet official on Thursday ended his campaign for president. He was the only Hispanic candidate in the race.

Speculation that Castro, who ran a particularly progressive campaign, is angling to be on Warren's eventual presidential ticket began almost immediately. Minutes after he tweeted his endorsement, the feminist website Jezebel published an article headlined "Julián Castro Endorses Himself As Vice President," noting his particularly flattering language about Warren.
