Donald Trump Hopes to Run Against Kanye West ‘Someday’

Donald Trump responded to fellow reality television star Kanye West’s promise to run for president in 2020 by labeling him a "nice guy."

"He has said very nice things about me in the past and he knows my daughter a little bit, Ivanka," Trump said of West during an interview with Rolling Stone. "And he has said very good things about me. Extremely positive things."

West declared himself a 2020 presidential candidate during a speech accepting a lifetime achievement award at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night.

The music artist has previously appeared to express support for 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, taking a photo with her alongside wife Kim Kardashian at a Clinton fundraiser last month.

"I was actually watching," Trump said of West’s Monday night speech, suggesting that his non-traditional candidacy may have inspired the rapper. "I saw him do it, and I said, ‘That’s very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea.’"

"He’s actually a different kind of a person than people think. He’s a nice guy," Trump said. "I hope to run against him someday."

Trump diverges from President Obama in his opinion of West; the commander in chief has in the past labeled the music star a "jackass."

While West would presumably run as a Democrat in 2020, his former father-in-law--Caitlyn Jenner, once known as Bruce--is a prominent conservative in Hollywood.
