Veterans, Public have Negative Reaction to Bergdahl Prisoner Exchange

Both the public overall and households that contain veterans have a negative reaction toward the prisoner exchange deal that freed U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, according to a survey released by the Pew Research Center and USA Today.

The exchange traded Bergdahl, who had been held captive in Afghanistan for five years, for five Taliban prisoners.

Overall, Forty-three percent say the exchange was the wrong thing to do, while just 34 percent say it was the right thing. Twenty-three percent had no opinion.

Veteran households had an even more negative view of the Bergdahl exchange. Among those surveyed who had a veteran in their household, 55 percent said the exchange was wrong, while 26 percent say it was the right thing to do.
