The former Detroit mayor, who has spent 15 months in prison on two separate stints for perjury, assaulting a police officer, and probation violation, now faces more than 30 corruption charges connected to his stint as mayor.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

Federal securities regulators on Wednesday charged former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick with secretly accepting improper gifts and trips from a financial advisory firm that won an investment from the city's public pension funds. …

The new civil charges come as Mr. Kilpatrick faces a separate wide-ranging federal racketeering indictment that detailed allegations of kickbacks from city contracts. The criminal case, which includes four co-defendants, is scheduled to go to trial this fall.
