President Donald Trump responded to a school shooting in south Florida Wednesday by offering prayers and condolences, along with the assurance that authorities are working together in response.
Authorities reported gunfire Wednesday afternoon just before dismissal time at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Trump offered prayers to the families of the victims of the shooting and declared that no one should feel unsafe at school.
"My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school," Trump wrote on Twitter.

He also said he has spoken to Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R.) and is working closely with local authorities.

According to Florida's WSVN-TV, at least 20 people were injured in the shooting.
Fox News has reported that the suspect has been detained, but the scene is still being treated as an active-shooter situation.
