NBC HOUSTON: Well, we’ve seen a spike in gun sales nationwide. Now we’re getting some new numbers on just how many Americans are buying guns. The FBI says more than 16 million Americans had instant criminal background checks performed on them last year. Last week, gun-maker Sturm, Ruger & Co. temporarily stopped taking new orders, in fact. The company says it has orders for more than a million guns; so far this year, that’s about the same amount they sold in all of 2011.
