The reelection campaign of Rep. Corrine Brown (D., Fla.) paid the Chinese embassy in Washington $4,000 in July, according to campaign finance records released on Thursday.
The campaign reported two payments to the embassy, one for $3,200 and one for $800, itemized as payments for "student visas."
Brown’s office did not respond to questions about the payments, which were first noted by ProPublica’s Derek Willis.
The third-quarter filing with the Federal Election Commission contained other odd disbursements, such as a $200 payment to Brown staffer Carolyn Chatman itemized as "senior prom."
