Maureen Galindo, a Democratic Texas House candidate, was defeated in a primary runoff election for the 35th Congressional District, despite initially finishing first in the original vote. Galindo, an anti-Israel sex therapist, had called for American supporters of Israel to be put in prison and made comments suggesting Jews worship Satan and own Hollywood.
Galindo came in second behind Johnny Garcia, a public information officer for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, according to the Associated Press. Garcia will face Republican Carlos De La Cruz in the November general election for the congressional seat, which is open due to redistricting.
Background on the Candidate
Galindo's campaign had raised less than $11,000 from just four donors, with Galindo herself contributing more than $4,000. Her comments on social media about Jews first came to widespread attention after a Washington Free Beacon report. In a video posted to her Facebook page, Galindo said, "They want to push the rapture as quick as possible so that they can see this coming of Christ … This is the way that all of the Jews who own Hollywood, they use books and movies to create realities."
Galindo also declared her plans to "turn Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking." Her remarks led to the complete withdrawal of mainstream Democratic support, with ActBlue suspending her from its donations platform and multiple Jewish Democratic House members saying they would immediately move to expel her if she were elected.
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries blasted Galindo as "vile," "antisemitic," and "unworthy of anyone backing her." Even TrackAIPAC, a notorious anti-Israel platform, pulled its endorsement amid the outcry.
